Ask a question about this product

Sashiko needlework originated in Japan in the 1600's and was used as a form of darning and repair work. Sashiko is the art of stitching geometric patterns using long running stitches within a quilting design. This needle art is sometimes referred to as embroidery stitch work.

This collection is the standard Sashiko needle length and comes in a handy clear tube, keeping the needles tidy and separate from your needle stash. We also offer a Sashiko collection featuring the longer length of needle.

These standard Sashiko needles are mainly used when stitching around curves. The longer Sashiko needles are used when creating long lines of stitches and for loading multiple stitches onto the needle.

Sashiko needles have a larger eye than a standard hand sewing needle. The smallest needle in this collection (39mm length) is designed to be used with a fine thread because the eye is smaller than the other sizes in the collection.

Most Sashiko patterns require both sets of needles, standard and long.
